Environmental and Remediation Services
Investigations and Remediation Services
Larson & Associates, Inc. (LAI) utilizes cost-effective strategies while working closely with the client and regulatory agency to develop specific objectives that support realistic cleanup and closure criteria. As a leader in environmental technology in the Permian Basin, LAI employs proven, cost-effective techniques.
- Direct-push technology for collecting soil and groundwater samples to minimize surface damage, and reduce waste disposal costs. LAI uses a Terraprobe® all-terrain direct-push sampling unit for collecting various types of media, including soil, groundwater and soil gas.
- Non-intrusive investigative methods, such as electromagnetic (EM) terrain conductivity, and magnetic surveys to efficiently map releases in soil and groundwater without surface disturbance.
- Innovative Technologies used to achieve cost-effective remediation objectives include:
- Troll 9500 probes to collect real-time downhole water quality data to determine contaminant-affected strata
- Eductor pump technology for dual-phase recovery of phase-separated petroleum hydrocarbons, and soil vapor extraction
- Air injection for in-situ remediation of dissolved organic contaminants in groundwater
- In-situ chemical stabilization and chemical reduction
- Soil vapor extraction (SVE) and bio-venting
- Landfarming petroleum contaminated soils for reuse and liability reduction
Electromagnetic (EM) Terrain Conductivity Surveys
EM surveys evaluate chemical releases to soil and groundwater by determining the electrical conductivity based on rock type, porosity, permeability, and composition of fluid in pore spaces.
The EM technique is proven in:
- Delineating produced water releases
- Mapping subsurface features and terrain contacts
- Locating abandoned oilfield pits, even where the surface has been reclaimed by vegetation
Environmental Site Assessments
Phase I environmental site assessments (ESA) are performed to identify recognized environmental conditions (RECs) that could lead to CERCLA liability. Larson & Associates, Inc. (LAI) Environmental Professionals have been performing ESAs since before the ASTM E1527-93 standard was promulgated! What this means for our clients is the assurance that our assessment will meet or exceed the EPA's 40 CFR §312 All Appropriate Inquiry to provide Landowner Liability Protections. Dependent on your needs, LAI ESAs will be conducted using either ASTM E1527-05 (Environmental Site Assessments: Phase I Environmental Site Assessment Process), or E2247-08 (Environmental Site Assessments: Phase I Environmental Site Assessment Process for Forestland or Rural Property).
Regulatory Services
Larson & Associates, Inc. (LAI) provides the following regulatory services:
- Air Permitting, Monitoring and Reporting
- Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans
- Storm Water Management Plans
- SARA Title 3 (Tier II) Filing
- Waste Classification and Management
- Facility Waste-stream Identification and Characterization
- RCRA Waste Generator Determination
- Water Rights Determination
NORM Surveys
Larson & Associates, Inc. (LAI) performs Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM) surveys in oil and gas producing areas for worker protection and focused remediation. NORM surveys ensure the proper handling and disposal of petroleum cleaning processes (tank bottoms, sludge, and decommissioned service equipment). LAI can help you meet regulatory requirements and reduce your environmental liability by safely managing decontamination and disposal of NORM-contaminated materials.
Regulatory Agency Reporting
Larson & Associates, Inc. (LAI) team-members are well versed in many State and Federal agency programs. If you have TRRP, PST, RCRA, UIC, E&P, OMG or any of a host of acronyms coming at you, give us a call! We can help you.
